While levels are measured in parts per trillion, long-term exposure and the mixture of multiple drugs raise real questions. Water treatment plants were never designed to remove these compounds, and sources range from human excretion to agricultural runoff and even manufacturing waste. Colorado is not immune, with studies showing drug residues throughout the Front Range.
