Tuesday 10/27/26: Your Money Matters Radio Show & Medicare & More Brought to you by the Silver Sherpa

Today’s Guests:
On this 10/27/26 edition of Your Money Matters, brought to you by Affordable Interest Mortgage, Host Scott Whatley talks with owner Kurt Rogers, about one of the biggest questions facing today’s homebuyers: Should you buy now or wait? Kurt explained that the answer depends on several factors, including where interest rates may go over the next year, whether home values will continue to appreciate, and the possibility that mortgage rates could actually increase. Using real-world examples, he demonstrated how even modest home appreciation can offset potential savings from waiting for lower interest rates. The program also explored how buyers can position themselves for the best financing opportunities by understanding their budget, down payment options, credit scores, and available loan programs, including first-time homebuyer programs, FHA, VA, and buydown options. Kurt highlighted the advantages of working with a mortgage broker versus a traditional bank, emphasizing access to multiple lenders, competitive pricing, specialized loan programs, and personalized service. The show concluded with an explanation of how seller concessions can significantly reduce upfront costs and reviewed the key steps prospective buyers can take to improve their credit scores before purchasing a home. Whether buying or refinancing, being prepared financially and informed about your options can save thousands and lead to a much more confident decision. Kurt Rogers is our exclusive Mortgage Broker. Then it’s Medicare & More brought to you by Silver Sherpa Inc. On this week’s show Host Scott Whatley and Owner of Silver Sherpa, Inc, Jim Garey, explains Medicare Part D, the prescription drug coverage portion of Medicare, and why understanding your enrollment requirements is so important. Prescription medications can be a significant expense, and Medicare Part D helps eligible individuals pay for their covered prescription drugs. Part D coverage is available through private insurance companies offering stand-alone prescription drug plans for people with Original Medicare, as well as through many Medicare Advantage plans that include drug coverage.

Jim discusses one of the most important things Medicare beneficiaries need to know: delaying Part D enrollment can result in a late-enrollment penalty. Generally, if you go 63 consecutive days or longer after your Initial Enrollment Period without Part D coverage or other creditable prescription drug coverage, you may face a penalty when you eventually enroll. Creditable coverage is prescription drug coverage expected to pay, on average, at least as much as standard Medicare Part D coverage.

The penalty is generally added to your monthly Part D premium and may last as long as you have Medicare prescription drug coverage. There are exceptions, so it is important to understand your individual circumstances before deciding to delay enrollment.
Jim also encourages listeners to review their prescription drug plans each year. Covered medications, pharmacy networks, premiums, deductibles, and copayments can change, potentially affecting what you pay out of pocket.

Through Silver Sherpa Inc., Jim Garey helps individuals better understand Medicare and make informed decisions about their coverage. Tune in to Medicare & More for practical information to help you avoid costly mistakes and make the most of your Medicare benefits.
