On this episode of Your Health Matters, brought to you by Integrated Health Systems, Dr. Shane Steadman discusses a condition many people have never heard of, yet one that can significantly impact their everyday lives: dysautonomia. Dysautonomia refers to a group of disorders affecting the autonomic nervous system, which controls many of the body’s automatic functions, including heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, sweating, and temperature regulation. Dr. Steadman explains how dysfunction within this system can lead to a wide range of symptoms, including dizziness, chronic fatigue, heart palpitations, brain fog, digestive problems, and even fainting. Unfortunately, these symptoms are sometimes mistaken for anxiety, stress, or simply the effects of aging, leaving patients searching for answers.

The conversation explores different forms of dysautonomia, including POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), along with potential contributing factors such as viral infections, autoimmune disorders, diabetes, and other medical conditions.

Dr. Steadman also discusses the importance of proper evaluation and diagnosis, as well as available treatment approaches. Depending on the individual, management may include hydration, appropriate electrolyte intake, nutritional support, medications, and carefully supervised physical rehabilitation.

At Integrated Health Systems, the discussion emphasizes the importance of understanding each patient’s symptoms and developing an individualized approach to care. The message of today’s show is one of awareness and hope. If you’re experiencing unexplained dizziness, fatigue, a racing heart, or persistent brain fog, don’t automatically dismiss these symptoms as normal aging. Understanding what your body is telling you and seeking an appropriate medical evaluation could be the first step toward improving your quality of life. Always a free consultation 303-781-5617.
