She explains punch biopsy is a quick, minimally invasive office test used to diagnose small fiber neuropathy. The doctor numbs a tiny area of skin—usually on the lower leg and thigh—and uses a 3mm circular tool to take a small sample. A lab then counts the small nerve fibers to check for damage.
